The Art of Trip Planning {Part 2}

After the decision is made…

Make Reservations

You could book everything separately … flight through the airline directly, hotel or vacation rental through sites like or or even the hotel’s website, and a car through the specific car rental agency. Why though? Use a one-stop shop like Expedia and get it all done in one place.

Be sure to use filters and the map search functions on booking sites to help pinpoint where you want to stay. If booking a whole house for your stay, start here for helpful tips on finding the perfect place.

When booking our flights to and from London and a hotel (no car) through Expedia, there was an option to book an express train from London Heathrow Airport to Padding Station (15-minute trip). Paddington Station is right around the block from the hotel.

Other Details

Looking for things to do around your destination? Expedia has you covered there too! Just enter your destination on the Search Things To Do page. Google Maps is also a great tool to see what’s around your hotel. What’s within walking distance?

Planning vacation activities will help avoid chaos and stress when you reach your destination. It will also ensure you don’t miss out on things you really want to do. Itineraries are good, but be sure to schedule some down time to relax and recharge. (More on this coming in Part 3.)

If your trip will require a passport, plan ahead. This can take 4-6 weeks!
