Pets, Vets, and Fireworks

2017 Fireworks Law in My City:

Leaders in my city have decided to change the city’s rules to allow SOME fireworks in time for the Fourth of July. The City Council decided to allow firework stands to set up shop and lift the personal fireworks ban.

Now people can buy the ones permitted under state law like sparklers and spinners. Basically fireworks that DON’T leave the ground, EXPLODE, or give off a LOUD BANG.

Pets terrified of fireworks. Obey the law.

I almost dropped my phone posting this because a LOUD BANG just about scared the piss outta me! I’m old, cranky, and so sad for my dog. The next three weeks will be hell at night and will require much coffee in the mornings.

Independence Day has been celebrated with illuminations and guns historically.

The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.

~John Adams to his wife Abigail

Key word … DAY. Not days, weeks, or an entire month. So enjoy Independence Day on July 4. I can coddle my poor dog for that long and don’t want to take away the excitement of the day for people. Celebrate! Have fun on the 4th! Then STOP IT for the love of all pets and PTSD-suffering war veterans.
