House in Bethesda Saved by Neighbors

Neighbors spend $2 million to block a McMansion

Big builders – big business. The real estate developer who had her eye on this house to tear it (and several trees) down to build a huge house in its place said,

“People don’t want eight-foot ceilings. I love trees, and I’m sorry I have to cut so many down, but builders are following what the people want.”

What a generalization! Not all people want swanky new mansions. Maybe that desire is more common in this expensive area of Bethesda, but there are people who appreciate the character and charm of such an existing neighborhood.

Look at this house after the remodeling they’ve done! This isn’t good enough for someone with a lot of money? Wow! I hope someone buys it soon and these neighbors at least break even.

UPDATE: Devil’s Advocate … I navigated a street view of the area on Google Maps, and the newer houses in the area aren’t really that bad looking. I’m not familiar with this term “McMansion”, but I wouldn’t consider the new homes mansions – just large homes with smaller yards.

I don't believe humans truly have a purpose. Our goal is to survive until we expire. Period. Joy is pleasurable and worrying is not. Balance in life is crucial; but if the scales must tip, may they tip on the side of joy. I’m just another human trying to survive. I blog because I can and because I enjoy it, not because it serves any purpose.
