Palin Calls War “A Task from God”

[As seen on video clip sent in comment on preceeding post.]

If you have read the entire Bible, as I have, you will see that whenever God hands down this task, it is to defend Him and those who believed in Him.  Christians were sent out to battle those who worshipped “false” gods.  Could you imagine the bloodshed right here in the U.S.A. if Christians were to carry out that task today?

What Does the Bible Say About War?

Is the Bible Contradictory About War?

What Did the Vietnam War Accomplish? (Actually, it did accomplish something – as did our involvement in the Korean War.)

I’m torn!  I believe there is a need for war, but I also believe it should be well planned.  Here are some interesting comments to a blogger’s question, “Why are we fighting the Iraq war?

I don't believe humans truly have a purpose. Our goal is to survive until we expire. Period. Joy is pleasurable and worrying is not. Balance in life is crucial; but if the scales must tip, may they tip on the side of joy. I’m just another human trying to survive. I blog because I can and because I enjoy it, not because it serves any purpose.

  • Thank you for sending the full text of what Sarah originally said. It helps to have the full information in front of us.

Again, I believe there is a time for war. I also believe there is a time to walk away. How long do we need to stay? Do they still want us there?

  • The actual context of her comment:

“Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God,” she exhorted the congregants. “That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan.”

Here’s what the AP turns it into:

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told ministry students at her former church that the United States sent troops to fight in the Iraq war on a “task that is from God.”…

“Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God,” she said. “That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God’s plan.”

However, I believe in war waged for righteous causes. Who among us would turn the other cheek in pacifism when we see a youth being beaten to death, or a girl being raped?
